Makin’ Movies Inc. is a Canadian-owned film and television production company co-founded by Toronto producer/director Maureen Judge.
Recently, Makin’ Movies, in co-production with the NFB and in association with Bravo, produced the film FLicKeR, which garnered The Special Jury Prize for Best Canadian Feature Documentary at the Hot Docs Film Festival (2008), Best International Art Film, Era New Horizons Festival, Wroclaw, Poland (2009) and was honored with a Gemini Nomination (2009). FLicKeR has been screened at festivals around the world, has had a cross-Canada Theatrical Release and was premiered on Bravo.
Under Maureen’s direction the company produced, in association with TVO, the highly acclaimed vérité documentary trilogy exploring the themes of love, betrayal and acceptance in parent/adult child relationships: the Genie Award-winning Unveiled: The Mother Daughter Relationship; In My Parents’ Basement; and Mom’s Home (which will air in 2010 in Canada on TVO, Knowledge Network and SCN and in Scotland on stv).
The company also created and produced Family Secrets, the award-winning documentary series for W Network. Family Secrets was honored with a Gold Award for a Documentary Series from Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival and has been sold to Sweden, Israel, Eastern Europe and Hong Kong.
Makin’ Movies was the executive producer of Heart of a Poet, the documentary/performance poetry series that profiled Canadian poets and their work. The series was broadcast on Bravo (Canada), Book Television, Access and clt.
Makin’ Movies also produced the critically acclaimed comedy-drama featurette, Altered Ego, broadcast as a prime-time special on CBC.

Maureen Judge is an award-winning producer and director and co-founder of the film company, Makin’ Movies.
Judge is the executive producer/producer of the feature-length documentary FLicKeR in a Makin’ Movies coproduction with the NFB. FLicKeR won Best International Film on Art, Era New Horizons Festival, Poland (2009), and the Special Jury Prize for Canadian Feature Documentary, Hot Docs Film Festival (2008), and Judge received a nomination for a 2009 Gemini Award, Best Performing Arts or Arts Film. The film was released theatrically in Canada, played at festivals around the world and had its broadcast premiere on Bravo!
Films Judge produced and directed include the vérité documentary trilogy exploring the themes of love, betrayal and acceptance in parent/(adult) child relationships: Unveiled: The Mother Daughter Relationship, which was honoured with multiple awards, including a Genie from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and a Hot Docs nomination for Best Social Documentary; the Silver Remi award-winning In My Parents’ Basement which opened season eight of The View From Here; and the newest film in the trilogy, Mom’s Home (not yet released), an intimate exploration of mothers and daughters in their august years.
Judge also directed the Chris Award winning NFB film, And We Knew How To Dance: Women and WWI. She is creator/producer and a director of the Gold Remi award-winning television series, Family Secrets, an honest and compassionate exploration into the world of family relationships, and the co-creator and a producer/director of Bravo Television series, Heart of a Poet (I&II), each episode an intimate portrayal of a poet’s creative journey.
Judge has a Master’s Degree in Cinema Studies from NYU and has taught at York University, Humber College and Sheridan College. She sits on the board of Women in Film – Toronto (WIFT-T) and is a programmer for the Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival. She is currently developing a documentary project Edges of Love for which she received funding from the Canwest-Hot Docs Documentary Development Fund.
